To ensure that all children master the skills they need to become successful readers,
Idaho law requires that every student from kindergarten to third grade be tested
three times each year. Students are tested in the fall, winter, and spring using
the Idaho Reading Indicator (IRI), a brief 10 minute test.
Each student is tested individually and their overall score is put into one of three
categories:
3 = At Grade Level (Benchmark)
2 = Near Grade Level (Strategic)
1 = Below Grade Level (Intensive)
