Idaho Reading Indicator [IRI]

To ensure that all children master the skills they need to become successful readers, Idaho law requires that every student from kindergarten to third grade be tested three times each year. Students are tested in the fall, winter, and spring using the Idaho Reading Indicator (IRI), a brief 10 minute test.

Each student is tested individually and their overall score is put into one of three categories:

3 = At Grade Level (Benchmark)
2 = Near Grade Level (Strategic)
1 = Below Grade Level (Intensive)

A list of the skills at each grade level can be accessed at:
http://www.sde.idaho.gov/ReadingIndicator/docs/Administrators/New%20IRI%20SkillsTested.doc
Or
http://www.sde.idaho.gov/ReadingIndicator/default.asp

Then click on "New IRI Skills Tested" Information can also be found on the State Department website: http://www.sde.idaho.gov/ReadingIndicator/default.asp
