Idaho Standards Achievement Test (ISAT)

Teachers have always used tests to measure student knowledge and progress. To assist teachers and inform parents and the public, the state has instituted the Idaho Standards Achievement Test (ISAT) to evaluate a student’s knowledge and skills in reading, language usage, math and science.

The ISAT is given in grades 3 through 10 every spring. The Science ISAT is only given in grades 5, 7, and 10.

To take this test, students use a computer. The test measures a student’s mastery of grade level standards, but the computer format also allows the test to immediately adjust to the performance of each student and provides information quickly to the teacher and the student.

A certain proficiency score is needed as a part of students’ graduation requirements. These scores cannot be counted until the spring of the 10th grade year. Students not achieving the proficient score will have the opportunity to retake this test in the 11th and 12th grades.

The following scores are required for graduation:

Reading 220

Math 238

Language 226

The Idaho Standards Achievement Test (ISAT) is the assessment that is used to calculate Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) required of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), formerly the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB). To find out more about the ISAT, click on this link:
